This is the Prologue of Kurtis' story....and the only thing I have done with his story. XD Enjoy! 83

It was the complete opposite of quiet. The noise flew about everywhere. Babies crying, children screaming, people laughing, insults being bellowed by angry fathers, cheers and cries being shouted by the opposing team. But Kurtis could hear nothing but his own breathing. He was next up to bat and he knew one very important fact; His team was going to lose...big time.
He had read over the scoreboard several times. It was the last inning, the score was 15 to 17. Kurtis stared out into the field where three teammates waited patiently on their bases. Two of them already looking disappointed, knowing the team’s fate. One of them looking slightly more hopeful. Kurtis’ friend Jeremy gave him a thumbs up as he forced himself out of dug-out.
“Oh no.” moaned Tyler back on the bench.
“We’re DONE for. Last game of the ENTIRE season and he has to go up. We’re SO going to lose, man.”
Kurtis choked back a whimper, holding the steal bat in his hands ever so tightly.
“Stay cool, Kurt. Stay cool. You got this, man. You GOT this.” he murmured as he made his way to the diamond.

Admittedly, Kurtis was very good at baseball. One of the best on the team. It’s just that he never did well when people were watching him. It pressured him and scared the poor boy to death.
He brought the bat up, his grip tightening. He stared dead straight at the pitcher, breathing nonexistent. Everything was quiet now. The stands, the babies, the people, the entire world was silent. Silent for Kurtis. He peeked out into the crowd momentarily as the pitcher stretched for the wind-up. He scanned the group of people, looking for someone. But no. They were not there. Two empty seats were not occupied, for two certain people had not shown up to none of Kurtis’ games ever since he started baseball at the age of 7.
No. They were too busy. Always too busy. His eyes continued to wander, farther down until he saw him. A man with a dark suit and cold eyes. His hair slicked back and gray patches clearly visible from aging. He waved at him with a smirk plastered on his face.
“STRIKE ONE!” cried the umpire.
Kurtis flinched back into reality. He had missed the first pitch. The crowd was still silent, though he could clearly hear Tyler groan.
“Keep your eye on the ball, son!” yelled the man.
Kurtis shot him a glance shocked to see that he was no longer sitting in the stands, but now right on the edge of the field. His head spun. Who was this guy? Did he know him? Was he one of his father’s clients? Or maybe one of mom’s no models? No, no, no. Kurtis was did not know this man. He was sure of it.

“STRIKE TWO!”
Kurtis gasped. He missed the second pitch too!? Tyler was now sobbing, rolling about in the dug-out.
“Shut up, Tyler!” yelled Jeremy.
No. Kurtis would pay no heed to the stalker. Not now at least. He need to focus. He needed to focus on the game. One more throw. He needed to hit just one. That’s all. Oh, please GOD…
And finally, the pitch was made. A fast ball with a dangerous curve to his weak side. Kurtis swung with all his might. Please, please, PLEASE. But no sound came. No cheer of the crowd or no crack of the ball. He missed. Kurtis knew it. He missed. But it was funny though. If he indeed did miss the baseball, why wasn’t the other team screaming with glee? Why didn’t he hear the pounding of feet on to the field or the moans of his team? He looked up to see that the world had stopped. Everything was frozen. Almost everyone in the stands were standing, staring down at him with wide eyes. His team was looking out from the dug out with their mouths agape and Tyler was holding onto his mit with a death grip. Jeremy and the other teammates out on the field were glancing at each other, hoping that they too might hear the satisfying crack of the ball. The pitcher’s face was screwed in the most peculiar fashion, his brow furrowed and eyes narrow, he looked absolutely ridiculous. And the baseball lay right in front of his face, just centimeters away from his nose.
“Oh…my…..gosh….” he whispered, lost for words.

“Kurtis my boy.” a smooth voice soothed from behind him.
A hands rested on his shoulder, rubbing it gently.
“Good to see you.”
Kurtis turned his head to see the man from the stands, his cold eyes staring into his.
“….Hi…..” he squeaked out.
The man laughed, slapping the boy’s back as though he had made some sort of hilarious rebuttal.
“Oh goodness! You should see your face! You look absolutely terrified.”
Which was true. Kurtis couldn’t feel his legs.
“Now, I’m going to make this short and sweet so you can hit that ball and win this stupid little game and be the hero to bask in your 15 minutes of fame. Alright?”
He nodded.
“Good, now listen to me boy…”
The man got startling close, grabbing Kurtis by his ponytail and bringing him towards himself.
“Strange things are happening.”
Kurtis took note of the frozen baseball.
“I can see that, sir.”
The man laughed again, almost evil-like.
“I’m sure you can! But my dear boy, you have to be aware of some certain issues.”
He stared Kurtis right in the eye, his lips curling into a vulgar smile.
“You’re special. Very, very, very, special. And people are going to come looking for you, Kurtis. People who want your specialties and try to use you for themselves.”
The boy thought about this statement. Was he really anything special? Kurtis was a first class failure. He was clumsy, shy, and couldn’t even read a history report in front of his class without breaking down with a panic attack. What sort of specialties could he possibly have?
“And my boy, I want you to stay away from these people!” the man continued.
“They’re horrible people! They don’t care about you, all they want is your power.”
“My power?” he questioned.
“Yes! Yes your POWER! Be careful, son. If these people ever try and contact you, ignore them or call the police. You have to stay clear from them! They only want to hurt you!”
“Hurt…me…?”
The man nodded.

“Heed my warning, child. Stay away from them. Especially a fellow named Jay, he’s the worst out of all of them. Stay safe.” he then ruffled his hair and walked down the field.
“Oh…and you can hit the ball now.” he said loudly.
“Go on, boy! Your team’s counting on you!”
Kurtis glanced at the ball that was only inches away and then looked back at th man as he proceeded on his way.
“WAIT! Who are you!?”
He stopped.
“Are you….my guardian angel or something!?” he shouted.
The man hesitated, thinking. He smiled after a moment or so replying;
“Yes. Yes. A Guardian Angel. That’s what I am.” and then continued on his way.
Kurtis sighed, looking at the ball again. Without hesitation, he slammed his bat straight into the sphere. Just like that, in a snap, the ball flew past the field and over the fence with a tremendous whizzing sound. Silence. A quick moment of silence. Then a cheer, an outburst of joy, and the whole crowd went wild! The coach screamed and the team was jumping and yelling at the top of their lungs. Jeremy and the others whooped and proceeded to home with ease. One! Two! Three! Kurtis’ team had won, 18 to 17! His team shot across the field, slapping his back and some even went as far as to kiss him on the cheek.
“You did it man! You did it!” Jeremy laughed, punching his friend in the arm.
“You won! Your first home run! You…you…you….Kurtis?”
The boy was quiet, his expression blank and unreadable.
“Kurt…you okay, dog?”
No answer. Kurtis remained his ground, not bothering to join in with the celebration.
Tyler spoke up.
“Hey dude, cheer up! You help us win the final game! Kurtis? Hey, Kurtis!”
Still no answer. But finally, he began to sway and hazel rolling into the back of his as the world went dark. Right then and there, Kurtis fainted.
